Searching For the Summit Film

Emmy® Award-Winning Film: Best Picture & Best Cinematography Nominee

Life after football left Mark Pattison feeling empty, lost, and without direction. After years of total focus on the game, retirement brought loneliness, a failed marriage, and moments where he questioned his worth. Searching for purpose, he turned to mountaineering—setting a bold goal to climb the Seven Summits.

At 59, Mark prepared to summit Mount Everest and attempt Lhotse, one of the toughest back-to-back climbs in the world. The journey tested him physically and mentally, pushing him through extreme altitude, dangerous conditions, and near-fatal moments. Along the way, he found healing in the mountains’ silence and clarity.

His mission became deeper when his daughter Amelia’s battle with epilepsy gave him a new reason to keep going. What started as a personal escape turned into a purpose-driven journey to raise awareness and help others.

Reaching Everest’s summit was not about records anymore—it was about survival, family, and perspective. Mark chose to come back safely instead of risking everything for another peak.

In the end, he realized true success wasn’t the mountain—it was returning home, healed, and ready for what truly matters.
