There’s a common misconception that vulnerability is a weakness.
We’re often taught to hide our insecurities, bury our fears,
and show only the polished versions of ourselves.
But over the years, I’ve learned something powerful—
vulnerability isn’t a weakness; it’s a strength.
After my business collapsed,
I was left with a huge pile of rubble—professionally and personally.
My confidence was shattered. I was overwhelmed with doubt.
But the hardest part?
Admitting my mistakes. It was difficult to face the fact that I had failed—
especially after everything I had worked so hard to build.
But that failure gave me a choice:
I could hide from it or I could embrace it. I chose the latter.
I allowed myself to be vulnerable, not only with myself but with those around me.
And that decision changed everything.
Here’s what I learned about harnessing the power of vulnerability—
especially in leadership, business, and life:
10 Steps to Harnessing the Power of Vulnerability
- Own Your Truth You can’t change what you don’t admit. Be honest about your mistakes and weaknesses.
- Embrace Imperfection Perfection doesn’t build trust—vulnerability does. Let people see the real you.
- Seek Feedback (Even When It’s Hard) Ask for criticism, not praise. Vulnerability means being open to constructive feedback.
- Lead by Example Show your team that vulnerability is a strength. When you open up, they’ll feel safe to do the same.
- Use Vulnerability to Build Trust Trust is earned by being human. Share your story and let people connect with you on a deeper level.
- Find Strength in Vulnerability Let your struggles become your strength. Vulnerability builds resilience.
- Stop Hiding Behind Titles and Achievements Titles won’t earn trust—authenticity will. Share your journey, not just your resume.
- Get Comfortable with Uncertainty Vulnerability thrives in uncertainty. Learn to embrace the unknown and allow it to fuel your growth.
- Use Vulnerability to Connect People relate to vulnerability. Use it to build meaningful relationships.
- Celebrate the Wins, Even the Small Ones Recognize the courage it takes to be vulnerable and celebrate the small steps forward.
