Mark here.
Over the years,
I’ve learned that even the most driven people can lose their spark.
Whether it’s a career, a dream, or even a personal passion,
the grind can sometimes dim the fire that once burned so brightly.
It’s not failure—it’s part of being human.
I’ve faced it too.
After my NFL career,
I found myself asking,
“What now?”
That transition wasn’t just a new chapter;
it was a search for purpose.
Later, as I scaled mountains like Everest,
there were moments where the climb felt less about passion
and more about sheer willpower.
But in those moments, I realized something:
passion isn’t something you wait to feel—
it’s something you reignite.
Reigniting passion requires deliberate effort, much like stoking a fire.
It’s a process of rediscovery, of re-centering on what fuels you.
10 Steps to Reignite Passion for What You Do
1. Pause and Reflect
Take time to reconnect with your “why.” Why did you start? What fueled your excitement in the beginning?
2. Rediscover Your Purpose
Align your work or goals with a larger purpose. Passion often comes from knowing you’re making an impact.
3. Set Fresh Challenges
Routine can dull excitement. Set new, meaningful goals that challenge you to grow and keep you engaged.
4. Reconnect with Gratitude
Focus on what’s working and the opportunities you’ve had. Gratitude has a way of shifting your perspective.
5. Shake Up Your Routine
Try a different approach, a new perspective, or even just a different environment to refresh your mindset.
6. Celebrate Small Wins
Sometimes the big picture can feel overwhelming. Recognize and celebrate the small victories along the way.
7. Surround Yourself with Inspiration
Spend time with people who inspire and challenge you. Passion is contagious, and your environment matters.
8. Invest in Yourself
Take a class, learn a new skill, or dive deeper into your field. Growth often sparks new excitement.
9. Step Back to Move Forward
Take a break to reset. Sometimes the best way to reignite passion is to step away and return with fresh eyes.
10. Remember It’s a Journey
Passion ebbs and flows. Embrace the process of reigniting it as part of the climb, not a setback.
This week,
take 5 minutes to reflect on what first inspired you in your work or passion.
Write it down,
and then choose one step from the list above to take action on.
Passion doesn’t come back on its own—you create it.
The Next Step Toolkit
One book that’s helped me stay connected to purpose is
“Man’s Search for Meaning” by Viktor Frankl.
It’s a powerful reminder that purpose, even in the hardest moments,
is what keeps us moving forward.
Let’s keep climbing, one step at a time.
Best,
Mark
