Meet Mark Pattison

We recently connected with Mark Pattison and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Mark, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

After going through a rough patch 10 years ago, I decided to become the 1st NFL Player to climb the Seven Summits. After I had climbed 4 of the mountains, I started to gain attention from my NFL playing days. Rather than soak up the attention, I decided to redirect the media focus to my daughter Emilia who was suffering from Epilepsy.

For 20 years, she battled and fought her way through this disease having 10+ seizures per day that would last between 2-15 seconds each. Controlled with meds, that was considered a win. She couldn’t ride a bike, drive a car or play on the Monkey bars.

We held multiple fundraisers and she put her face to the campaigns by getting up on stage and talking about it. It was a struggle. We raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to help bring money and awareness to help others.

When I got to Mt EVEREST, I really struggled coming off the summit and nearly died. It was because of Emilias inspiration and fight that got me back off my butt and started my way back down the mountain.

She gave me a gift and I am grateful for it. BTW: she is 100% healed from Epilespy now.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I’m a former NFL Player, became the 1st player to climb the Seven Summits + Matterhorn, Eiger, Mont Blanc, Grand Teton, Rainer and many more.

Won a best picture EMMY for Searching for the Summit which the NFL produced on my climb up EVEREST. I’ve also been running Sports Illustrated the last 10 years taking the company from #17 to #1.

I’m the other of a new book called Finding Your Summit and a Podcast with the same name with over 300 recorded episodes.

I keynote speak, offer workshops and have an event in Sun Valley, Idaho this September called the Seven Summits/ Summit.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Learning the Pyramid of Success which taught me about Resilience, Faith, Mindset and Determination to achieve big things.

Learn the Pyramid of Success. It works.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?

I left S.I. after 12 years 6 months ago to pursue my own branding and public speaking. My biggest obstacle is finding stages to want to here me come speak although I’m doing a TED TALK in May
