Finding Your Summit takes readers inside Mark Pattison’s journey from the NFL to the Seven Summits, revealing what extreme environments teach us about leadership, decision-making, resilience, and moving forward when life gets hard.
Through raw, unfiltered stories from Mount Everest, Denali, Aconcagua, and the challenges long before the mountains, Mark shows how clarity, discipline, and endurance are built one deliberate step at a time. The book makes one truth unmistakably clear: the most demanding climbs are often the ones happening inside us.
At the heart of the book is Mark’s SUMMITS Model—a practical framework forged through years of adversity, high performance, and moments when quitting would have been justified. This model offers readers a repeatable way to navigate uncertainty, reset identity, and lead with purpose under pressure.
Finding Your Summit is more than a story about mountains. It is a guide for leaders, athletes, entrepreneurs, and anyone in transition who is ready to rise above their circumstances, rebuild with intention, and climb toward a life that demands more—and rewards the effort it takes to earn it.
Searching for the Summit earned Mark a Sports Emmy Award for Best Short Documentary, along with a nomination for Best Cinematography. The film follows his ascent of Mt. Everest and the deeper mission that inspired it.
Before climbing the world’s tallest mountains, Mark built his reputation in the NFL with five seasons across the Raiders, Saints, and Rams. His Hall of Fame honors from both High School and the University of Washington reflect a lifetime of consistency, teamwork, and elite performance.
Today, those same principles fuel the leadership systems he teaches to organizations and teams everywhere.
Mark is part of an elite group who have climbed the Seven Summits, completing some of the most demanding mountains on Earth. His journey spans Cotopaxi, The Matterhorn, The Eiger, Mont Blanc, Mt. Rainier, The Grand Teton, and ultimately, the summit of Mt. Everest.
These climbs are more than achievements. They are proof of disciplined preparation, calculated decision-making, and the mental resilience he now teaches to executives and teams.
Mark hosts the Finding Your Summit podcast, featuring world-class athletes, business leaders, actors, and high performers. Every episode explores real stories of adversity, breakthrough moments, and the mindset shifts that helped guests find their own summit.
Mark’s deepest purpose comes from a very personal summit, his daughter Emilia’s battle with epilepsy. When her condition became critical, Mark turned his Everest climb into Emilia’s Everest, a mission to raise awareness and funds for families facing the same fight.
Carrying Emilia’s story through snow blindness, storms, and running out of oxygen, Mark completed the climb and helped raise over $150,000 for epilepsy support programs, with contributions from the NFL and the Las Vegas Raiders.
Today, Mark continues his work with Higher Ground, empowering individuals with disabilities through connection and adaptive recreation.
Every climb has a purpose. This is his mission in life to help others and pay it forward.
